    L’après-vie des œuvres d’art numériques – Stratégies déployées par le collectif Projet EVA

    « La conservation d’œuvres d’art numériques hors du cadre institutionnel offert par les musées et les fondations pose plusieurs problèmes pour les créateurs indépendants. En effet, ces derniers doivent faire face à des problèmes d’entretien, de migration technologique et d’animation sans posséder les moyens adéquats pour les solutionner. De surcroît, la nature hybride de certaines de ces œuvres, qu’il s’agisse d’installations ayant un volet performatif ou de systèmes dont l’existence repose sur une composante participative, vient nettement compliquer la donne. Un survol de cas pratiques reliés à la production artistique du collectif Projet EVA permettra de présenter les stratégies déployées ou envisagées par ses membres en ce qui a trait à la conservation de ses différentes œuvres. »

    The Afterlife of Digital Art Works – Strategies Deployed by the Projet EVA Collective

    “The conservation of digital art works outside the institutional framework offered by museums and foundations raises several issues for independent artists. Indeed, the latter come up against maintenance, technological migration and animation problems without having adequate means to find solutions to them. Furthermore, the hybrid nature of some of these works, whether they be installations with a performance component or systems whose existence depends on a participative input, clearly complicates the situation for the artists. An overview of practical cases linked to the art production of the Projet Eva will serve to present the strategies deployed or envisaged by its members in regards to the conservation of its various works.”

    Étienne Grenier est un artiste œuvrant dans le domaine de la culture numérique. Ses activités à titre de concepteur multimédia l’ont amené à collaborer avec des partenaires associés à l’architecture, au théâtre, à l’éclairage, à la danse et à la vidéo. Cofondateur de Projet EVA, il explore avec ce collectif les concepts de réalité diminuée, d’interactivité totalitaire, ainsi que la déprogrammation des perceptions dans le cadre de projets artistiques transgressifs. Son intérêt pour le milieu des arts s’est manifesté à travers son implication dans différents organismes (PRIM, Eastern Bloc, CQAM). Il a également enseigné à l’École des médias de l’UQAM. Son travail de concepteur et ses projets artistiques ont été présentés dans les Amériques, en Europe et au Moyen-Orient.

    Etienne Grenier is an artist who works in the digital culture field. His activities as a multimedia developer have led him to collaborate with partners working in architecture, theatre, lighting design, dance and video. He is a co-founder of Projet EVA, a collective in which he explores the concepts of diminished reality, totalitarian interactivity as well as the deprogramming of perceptions as part of transgressive art projects. His involvement with various organizations (PRIM, Eastern Bloc, CQAM) speaks to his interest for the arts milieu. He has also taught at École des Médias of UQAM. His work as a developer and his artistic projects have been shown in the Americas, Europe and the Middle East.
