European curators in residency in Montreal

Molior is continuing its networking residencies with Central Europe!
From June 8th to 22nd, curators Davorka Begović (Croatia) and Maja Burja (Slovenia) will be taking part in a Montreal networking residency organized by Molior.
Davorka Begović is an independent curator and freelance musicologist. She is currently a member of the KONTEJNER ǀ bureau of contemporary art praxis curatorial team.
Maja Burja is an independent curator and producer. She regularly collaborates with Aksioma – Institute for Contemporary Art, Ljubljana.
Over a two-week period, the two curators will visit artists’ studios, tour a selection of institutions, art centres and galleries in Montreal, and meet with a wide range of Canadian arts professionals.
Networking evening
A networking evening with Maja and Davorka will be held on Wednesday June 19 from 5 to 8 pm at perte de signal (5445 avenue de Gaspé, local 107). During the evening, the two curators will give a short presentation of their curatorial work. Members of the Montreal art community are warmly invited to attend. Davorka Begović (Zagreb, 1984) is a freelance musicologist and independent curator from Zagreb, Croatia, working in the field of contemporary experimental music and related art forms. For the last 18 years, she has been active in the field of culture and art as a programmer and a producer, primarily of music projects, but also theatre, contemporary dance, multimedia, and film projects. Currently, she is a member of the curatorial team of KONTEJNER ǀ bureau of contemporary art praxis, where she holds the position of a sound and music curator. Begović is an associate lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts.and she also organizes experimental sound workshops and listening sessions, in addition to participating in international conferences.
Maja Burja works as a freelance curator and producer. Her practice is characterized by a critical engagement with emerging and obsolete technologies, an interest in analogue-digital entanglements, cybernetics, metafiction, emergent gameplay and the exploration of (im)material systems where human and other agents engage in the production of possible worlds.
To date, she has curated and produced several art exhibitions, new media art projects, international artist residencies, lectures, workshops, community meetups, and festivals.
She holds an MA in Sculpture (Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana) and has completed the World of Art, School for Curatorial Practices and Critical Writing programme. She has been regularly collaborating with Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory (since 2018) and Aksioma – Institute for Contemporary Art Ljubljana (since 2022).
About the curator residency program
Molior has set up a curator networking and professional support residency program between Montreal and various countries. This is the third segment of the bilateral residency program with Central Europe, in continuity with the Montreal residencies that Krisztina Szipőcs (HU) and Peter Sit (SK) carried out in August-September 2023, and the residency that hosted Lisa Tronca in Central Europe in April 2024.
These residencies are a professional development and network consolidation project, a means to discover artistic approaches and an opportunity to draw inspiration from creative practices from abroad in order to develop new networks between the Canadian and European art scene.
This initiative is guided by a desire to share knowledge and know-how, foster network development and establish long-term relationships between institutions with complementary mandates. Developed in a perspective of collaboration and knowledge sharing, the residencies benefit all participants, including the organizations of a single local community. This initiative is built with the expertise and participation of many partners and has the objective of opening markets and creating opportunities on the international scene for the Canadian and the international community alike.
