Molior is celebrating its 15th anniversary with an exhibition and a international colloquium
Montreal, September 15, 2016 – Molior the producer of major digital art exhibitions specialized in far-reaching projects in China, Brazil, Portugal, Peru and France, is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a series of major events. The celebrations will begin with Marie Perrault’s exhibition, Rhythms of the Imagination, Technological Tools and Works, from November 10 to 19, 2016 at Concordia’s Black Box, followed by the international colloquium Contemporary Digital Art: Conservation, Dissemination and Market Access on November 23, 24 and 25 at the Canadian Centre for Architecture under the patronage of Daniel Langlois.
« I called upon a selection of artists previously featured by the organization to put together an exhibition that explores the development and appropriation of digital tools. At first filled with promise, the use of technology by artists is nowadays well established. Both the current context and Molior’s anniversary offer a ripe opportunity to look back at these practices.
In accordance with Molior’s mandate since its foundation, the selection focuses on works in which technology contributes to the sensorial experience of viewers, all the while allowing them to decode a world that is increasingly modulated by technological developments. The works gathered provide a glimpse of the wide variety of practices supported by Molior up until now. They mark different periods in the development of the organization, and a majority of them were shown as part of events produced by Molior all around the world. At this turning point, both in the evolution of digital art and the history of Molior, it is important to assess the situation and prepare for the future.
Through the exhibition and acquisition history of the selected works, the show will also provide concrete examples to stimulate discussion during the colloquium. » Marie Perrault
The colloquium, Contemporary Digital Art: Conservation, Dissemination and Market Access is presented under the patronage of Daniel Langlois.
This event will assess the advances in the practices and issues related to the conservation of digital art. It will put forth the specificities of disseminating digital contemporary art and explore current and future issues pertaining to market access for this form of art.
The programming was put together by an editorial committee made up of the following persons: Aurélie Besson, Matthew Biederman, Andrée Duchaine, Ying Gao, Daniel Langlois, Dominique Moulon and Marie Perrault.
The names of the artists and colloquium speakers as well as the program details will be communicated very soon!
Molior is an organization, founded in 2001 by Andrée Duchaine, specialized in the production of exhibitions and artistic projects which make use of technologies as a creation, expression and action tool.
The organization has produced over 50 major activities. In total, it has presented 128 established and emerging artists in renowned institutions in Canada, Portugal, Peru, Brazil, France and China. The organization’s goal is to develop and produce concept-driven events that foster and foreground the experience and meaning of the works. It has collaborated with dozens of Canadian and international curators and has contributed to 19 publications. Between 2010 and 2014, Molior’s exhibitions were viewed by over 500,000 visitors and were the subject of over 500 reports in established media.
Molior also carries out various activities outside of established networks in order to stimulate audience development and foster access to high quality productions.
These events will be an opportunity for the Montreal community to celebrate the organization’s sustained involvement in the arts field over these 15 years, and to underline its visionary contribution to the international blossoming of Canadian and Quebecois digital art.
Molior would like to thank the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Fondation Langlois as well as its partners, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Hexagram, Concordia and the Goethe-Institut for their support of the event.
Molior is an organization supported by Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts and Conseil des Arts de Montréal.
