Knight of Infinite Resignation
Diane Landry
Molior is taking part in TransLife International Triennial of New Media Art
From July 26 to August 17, 2011, Molior is collaborating with the National Art Museum of China in Beijing to present TransLife – International Triennial of New Media Art. Molior is renewing its partnership with this first rate institution in what is a highly stimulating context for the international media arts community.
The second edition of this triennial, put together by the artistic director and curator Zhang Ga, presents no less than 53 works created by more than 80 artists from twenty countries. The exhibition will also display the work of several emerging artists in a large-scale installation designed by the cutting-edge Chinese architect Ma Yansong. This ambitious undertaking is unquestionably among the most significant media arts events of the year.
Organized around a three part theme, the artistic projects selected for TransLife invite one to reflect on ideas pertaining to life, on ethical questions arising in the field of genetics, on conditions which impact perception and sensory experience, as well as on the ecological solutions which are available to the human species in this era of great challenges.
For TransLife Molior is presenting three major installations created by Canadian artists: Knight of Infinite Resignation by Diane Landry, Plant (iPod) by Jane Tingley, and JND (Just Noticeable Difference) by Chris Salter in collaboration with Marije Baalman and Harry Smoak.
Several talks by international guests are also scheduled as part of the event. Moreover, the exhibition is accompanied by a 300 page plus catalogue comprised of essays by world renowned authors.
TransLife – International Triennial of New Media Art was made possible thanks to the collaboration of many partners including: Parsons The New School for Design (US), Molior (Canada), V2_Institute for the Unstable Media (Netherlands), SymbioticA (Australia), Liverpool University Press (UK), Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University (China), TASML | Tsinghua Art & Science Media Laboratory (China), China Academy of Art (China), UCCA Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (China), Kontejner (Korea), FACT Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (UK), KHM Cologne Academy of Media Art (Germany).
