A Canopy is an augmented reality work rooted in a personal experience combined with a reflection on the urban reality of the Saint-Roch neighborhood in Quebec City. Geolocated in an outdoor parking lot at the corner of du Pont and De La Salle streets, this artistic proposal stems from the artist’s memory: from her childhood in the Lower Town, which she frequently traversed. Over the years, an observation took shape: the mineral nature of the neighborhood’s development tends to generate stifling heat islands, which are amplified by summer heatwaves. Working-class neighborhood where the density of urban development and the lack of green spaces leave no respite, pre-gentrification Saint-Roch reflects the class divide in an era when industrialization harshly marked the social landscape.
